Prep Roundup: Shumpert Show Lifts Triton Over S. Central

UNION MILLS – Delano Shumpert found paydirt multiple times as the Triton football team started its season with a 30-7 win ?Friday at South Central High School.

The Trojans struck first on a 29-yard pass from James Snyder to Tye Orsund, and responded to a South Central field goal with Shumpert’s 27-yard touchdown run.

Shumpert responded to another score by the Satellites (0-1) when he hauled in a 24-yard touchdown pass from Snyder.

Shumpert reached the end zone one more time in the fourth quarter, running 29 yards for the score.

Triton will host LaVille at 7 p.m. Friday in a rematch of last year’s sectional title game.

Wawasee Gives Up Ground In Season Opener

LAGRANGE – The Wawasee football team dropped its season opener 28-7 Friday at Lakeland High School.

Wawasee’s only score came on Evan Eshbach’s 15-yard strike to Dylan Hepler in the fourth quarter while the Warriors were trailing 22-0.

All of the Lakers’ touchdowns came on the ground, and they racked up 370 rushing yards on a whopping 57 carries.

Meanwhile, Eshbach was 12-of-28 passing with 151 yards. The?Warriors (0-1) gained 251 total yards of offense against Lakeland (1-0).

Warsaw Lady Tigers Win Soccer Game

SOUTH?BEND – The Warsaw girls soccer team topped Valparaiso, 1-0 on Friday at South Bend St. Joseph High School.

Corissa Koontz scored the match’s lone goal on an assist from Abby Steffensmeier with around 8 minutes left.

Kaylee Patton was in the net for the shutout for Warsaw (1-0).

The Lady Tigers will play Evansville Memorial at 9 a.m. and Chesterton at 2:30 p.m. Both matches will be played at Newton Park in?Lakeville.



Mansfield Leads Lakeland Christian To Win

SOUTH?BEND – Micah Mansfield had two goals and an assist to lead the Lakeland Christian boys soccer team to a 7-0 win over Community Baptist on Friday.

Theran McKeever and Parker Stewart scored two goals each, while Aiden?McQuade scored one goal and assisted on another for the Cougars (2-0).

Lakeland Christian’s Landon Twombly tallied two assists, while Leyton Goldsmith, Michael Easterling and Mark McQuade also notched assists.

Remington Swanson was in the net for the Cougars with one save.

Lakeland Christian will play North Miami today at 5:30 p.m. at North Miami High School.



Calizo Scores Three Goals To Propel LCA

WINONA?LAKE – Tori Calizo achieved a hat-trick to lead the Lakeland Christian girls soccer team to a 5-3 win over Kouts on Friday.

Jessie Calizo and Lauren Starrett also scored for Lakeland Christian.

Maddie Paris was in the net for the Lady Cougars (2-0-1) with 12 assists.

Lakeland Christian next will play on the road against Whitko at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
