SYRACUSE – Wawasee’s varsity softball team got off to a great start Friday evening and cruised to a 17-2, five-inning win over Northern Lakes Conference rival Plymouth.

The host Lady Warriors, led by monster performances from freshmen Ava Rush and Danielle Jenkins, along with junior Graceanne Kerlin, scored 10 runs in the first inning and led 14-1 after three innings.

Plymouth plated a run in the fourth frame, while Wawasee put three runners across in the bottom of the inning to account for the final score.

The Lady Warriors out-hit Plymouth 18-6.

Rush was 3 for 4 at the plate and drove in six runs with a single and two home runs. She scored four times.

Danielle Jenkins was 4 for 4 with a single, two doubles and a home run. She drove in three while needing just a triple to hit for the cycle.

Kerlin finished the game 3 for 4 at the plate, falling a triple short of hitting for the cycle, and tallied five RBIs.

Junior Bethany Flannery hit three singles in the convincing win, while Delaney Hare, Aubrey Kuhn, Amanda Jenkins, Megan Bray and Faith Swihart all had one hit each.

Kiaundra Olson got the win in the circle, as the freshman gave up six hits and one walk in five innings of work. She struck out three.

The Lady Warriors, now 9-10 overall and 6-5 in the NLC, host Goshen Monday.

Plymouth fell to 2-18 and 0-12.

Lady Trojans Fall Behind Early

ELKHART – The Triton Lady Trojans gave up 14 runs over the first three innings Friday night and fell 15-3 in a five-inning softball game at Jimtown.

The host Jimmies scored five runs in the first inning, three in the second and six more in the third, as they out-hit Triton 17-7.

The Lady Trojans, who got all seven of their hits from the top four batters in the lineup, scored three runs in the fifth inning.

Crystal Brown, Kacie Pugh and Nikki Sechrist had two hits each for Triton, with one of Pugh’s hits a double.

Taytum Hargrave had one hit in the loss.

Sechrist was charged with the loss in the circle after giving up 12 hits, 12 runs and two walks in two innings of work. She struck out two.

Pugh pitched the other two innings, giving up five hits, three runs and a pair of walks while striking out one Jimtown batter.

The Lady Trojans are now 6-10 on the season.

Nunez Pitches Tigers To Win

MIDDLEBURY – Behind a pitching gem from Michael Nunez, Warsaw’s varsity baseball pulled out a 2-1 Northern Lakes Conference win at Northridge Friday night.

Nunez pitched a complete game for the Tigers, giving up just three hits and no earned runs.

Jared Hawley, Brendan Perry and Nunez had two hits each in the win.

The Tigers scored once in the third inning and once in the sixth. Northridge scored its lone run in the fifth inning.

Warsaw is now 5-12 overall and 3-9 in conference play.

Fifth Inning Dooms Triton

BOURBON – Triton’s varsity baseball team led 6-3 after two innings but fell 14-6 to North Judson Friday.

The host Trojans scored once in the first inning and five times in the second to take the three-run lead, but North Judson plated a run in the fourth and blew the game open with 10 runs in the fifth.

Lucas Newman, Delano Shumpert, Dylan Hensley, Vincent Helton and Jeremiah Farrell all had a hit in the loss.

Newman was charged with the loss on the mound after giving up seven hits, nine runs and five walks in four innings of work. He struck out two.

Squires Win At Heritage

MONROEVILLE – The Manchester Squires took a 4-0 lead and went on to a 7-3 nonconference win at Heritage Friday night.

The Squires scored once in the first and three times in the third for the four-run lead. The host Patriots scored one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but Manchester’s three runs in the top of the sixth proved to be too much.

Mason Roberts got the win on the mound for Manchester, giving up seven hits and two earned runs in six innings of work. He struck out three and walked one.

Among Manchester’s eight hits was a double by Hayes Sturtsman.

Warriors Fall In 8 Innings

PLYMOUTH – Wawasee’s varsity baseball team scored twice in the first inning but were held scoreless over the next seven innings in a 3-2 Northern Lakes Conference loss at Plymouth.

The host Pilgrims scored a run in the second, fourth and eighth innings en route to the win.

The Warriors were out-hit 6-3 in the game. Kameron Salazar, Jeremiah Bess Blaine Greer each hit a single for Wawasee.

Carter Woody was charged with the pitching loss after giving up four hits and a run in 3-1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out three.

Rochester Blanks Whitko Netters

ROCHESTER – The Whitko girls tennis team dropped its final Three Rivers Conference match of the season, losing 5-0 at Rochester Friday night.

The Lady Wildcats conclude the regular season Monday with a 4:30 p.m. match at Wawasee.
