I find some solitude reading the stories about our small town. Our “First Fridays,” the small art expositions, the gathering of our community, the simple but important things that make a community, a relationship with one another a way of life.
I was stunned the other day by an article in our sports sections by a “sports” writer from The Associated Press. The writer seemed to have more of a political bent to his story about Hershel Walker, a gifted and adored athlete, who may or may not run for senator of the state of Georgia. Mr. Bill Barrow found a way to give his political opinion about the Georgia election. He found that the fraudulent escapades of the Georgian election process, to be a hoax, simply made up.
I think Mr. Barrow’s opinion is his alone and he is free to express it. I just don’t think it is the place of a syndicated sports writer to pontificate about political affairs ... just give the balls and strikes.
It seems to be the way that everyone who thinks they have a megaphone, whether it be through the media or movies, or posting some egregious remark on Facebook, someone always has an opinion. I too have an opinion and as this is my only media platform, I hope my opinion gets across. Mr. Barrow should keep his ideas focused on sports. His clumsy remarks about a sports icon as well as his determination of the 2020 election in Georgia, should be kept for his editorial page, should he ever get one.
