Sadly, most of us know someone who has been affected by breast cancer. It has no border or boundaries. In fact, nearly every Warsaw Community Public Library staff member has been touched by breast cancer, either directly or indirectly. As a result, WCPL is joining the fight against breast cancer during October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Warsaw Library will be having a Pink Out Day on Monday, Oct. 12 to raise community awareness. During that day, staff members will be wearing pink tops to remind people that life is too valuable to let this disease claim friends or loved ones. Library visitors, area residents and businesses are also encouraged to join us in wearing pink on that day - to "pink out."
Breast cancer bookmarks and information sheets on early detection and warning signs will be available at the circulation desk. Library visitors can also sign a banner of support in the front lobby to honor survivors, those who have lost their battle against breast cancer, or even to share their success story. A special book display on breast cancer is on exhibit on the second level with books available for check out.
A breast cancer yoga class on yoga positions specifically for those battling breast cancer before, during or after treatment will be held later in the day at 6:30 p.m. Registration will be required.
"Think Pink" and visit us on Pink Out Day, sign the banner, pick up free information sheets, and attend the breast cancer yoga class later in the evening. Our hope is that every woman (and man) will take advantage of the information available to them and encourage their mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, nieces and friends to do the same.
