A Pierceton woman is facing attempted kidnapping charges after police say she tried to talk her children into running from foster care. Angela Adams, 39, of 309 S. Maple St., Pierceton, is facing two charges of attempted kidnapping, both level 6 felonies. The children were placed in foster care in early December, after the two boys, ages 11 and 5, tested positive for drugs, according to Warsaw Police Department Public Information Officer and Capt. Kip Shuter. On Dec. 14, police and an agent from the Department of Child Protective Services did a safety check at Adams’ residence. According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office, the home contained prescription medicine that the children would have been able to access. On Jan. 1, the foster parents of the children found an email on the 11-year-old’s laptop that said, “I tried to escape with (Adams) in a vehicle and drive away,” the affidavit states. Police believe Adams had communicating with her eldest son by having a friend slip him a cell phone during a visit. The foster parents told police the night before they had found the child’s backpack filled with the boy’s items and stored in the garage. The foster parents said they saw a vehicle drive past the home at slow speed. Police obtained a search warrant for the laptop and phones that the children had. The search revealed around 280 text messages and 17 phone calls between the children and Adams. Police believe Adams used the text messages and phone calls to convince her boys to run away from foster care. When police asked Adams if she was the one driving the car on New Year’s Eve, she said, “You’re going to search my phone, find out yourself,” the affidavit states. Adams was booked into Kosciusko County Jail Friday night. Initial bond was set at $10,250.
