INDIANAPOLIS - Pearl Yetive Steers Brenton, 96, of Indianapolis, died Oct. 25, 2008, in her residence.
She was born Nov. 27, 1911, in Indianapolis, to Edwin M. S. and Leila Kemp Steers. In 1935, in Petersburg, she married Byron Hunter Brenton, who died in 1998.
She graduated from Indiana University in 1934, and worked for the state welfare agency. She was a long-time member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Caroline Scott Harrison Chapter, Indianapolis, and a member of Society of Indiana Pioneers, Indiana Mayflower Society and Magna Charta Dames. Genealogy was her avocation and she developed a column for the Indianapolis Star called "Hoosier Ancestors" and wrote it for many years. From childhood on, she summered at her cottage on Lake Tippecanoe, near Leesburg. She was a member of First Meridian Heights Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis; attended First Baptist Church, Oswego; and in recent years, attended the Mid-North Shepherd's Center group which meets at North United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Broad Ripple, Indianapolis. Burial will be in Washington Park North Cemetery.
