COLUMBIA CITY - Paul R. Anders, 81, Columbia City, passed away at 7:55 a.m. June 6, 2008, at Miller's Merry Manor, Columbia City.

He was born Aug. 27, 1926, in Columbia Township, Whitley County, to Roy and Mary E. Sievers Anders. On April 3, 1948, in Columbia City, he married Marjorie E. Cullimore. who preceded him in death on Dec. 19, 1997, after 49 years of marriage.

He and his wife moved to Thorncreek Township in 1953, and he lived at his present home since 1960. A general farmer, he was one of the founders of Warsaw Wholesale Co., where he was a co-owner since 1965.

He was a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church, Eagles Lodge 1906 and Elks Lodge 1914, all in Columbia City; and Indianapolis Post 0777 American Legion. He served as a Whitley County commissioner for 15 years, and on many Indiana State Commission Committees where he was president of the Association of Indiana Counties for two years and one term as president of Indiana County Commissioners Association. He was a member of the board of directors of Otis R. Bowen Center, the John and Hester Adams Trust Fund and for numerous years he served on the Board of Whitley Memorial Hospital. He was a former Board of Director of Passages Inc. and a former president of Old Settler's. Governor Frank O'Bannon presented him with the prestigious Sagamore of the Wabash Award.

Survivors include a daughter, Paula J. Anders, Fort Wayne; two sons, Gary (and spouse Mary) Anders, New Port Richey, Fla., and Robert Anders, Columbia City; eight grandchildren, Kirban W. (and spouse Stacy) Wolfe, Kelly J. Hosler, Michael and Matthew Pasquale, Dana E. (and spouse Lyle) Baron, Mark Pasquale, Joseph L. and Mary Elizabeth Anders; eight great-grandchildren, Mason Andrew Waggoner, River Kolb, Garrett Hacker, Morgan Wolfe, Jacob and Zackary Hosler, Reese Baron and Lyle Baron Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Adam Kolb; and two brothers, Edward Leroy and James Howard Anders.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City, with Pastors Curtiss Johnson and Paul Arnold officiating. Graveside military honors will be presented by the Whitey County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard with burial to follow at Eberhard Lutheran Cemetery, Columbia City.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
