P4C Looking For Volunteers For Saturday River Cleanup

Posted
Paddlers for Conservation, also known as P4C, will host its first seasonal Tippecanoe River cleanup effort Saturday and is looking for volunteers.

The program aims to decrease the amount of litter, debris and hazardous material in the river. One priority is removing log jams which hinder the ability to freely travel the river without obstruction and hinders the health of the river bottom.

Cleanup efforts produce immediate and highly visible results and increases the public's awareness of the effects of pollution by involving the community in direct action, according to a news release from P4C.

P4C's methods are environmentally sensitive with their motto being "low impact, big results" and their projects provide environmental sustainability by reducing the risk to human health, river commerce, wildlife habitat and the very reputation of the area, the release states.

P4C's Watershed Stewardship Campaign goals are met by holding at least three to four river cleanup events each year.

In 2016, P4C successfully completed five cleanup efforts, removed 110 log jams, recruited 77 volunteers via more than 40 hours.

To sign up, visit the volunteer page at P4C's website at www.p4cpaddleclub.com and look under events to learn all the details regarding Saturday’s event. Anyone who does not have a kayak or canoe should mention it in the comment field and P4C will accommodate the request.
