AKRON — Osie Hopkins Shoemaker, 92, Akron, died at 1:45 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2018, at her residence.

She was born Oct. 20, 1925,  in Salyersville, Ky., to Frank and Ella Wireman Shepherd. She was married on May 16, 1949, in Warsaw, to Thomas Hopkins, who passed June 17, 1978. She was married on Jan. 2, 1988, in Akron, to Cecil Shoemaker, who passed Sept. 9, 2015.

She had worked at Chamberlin Products of Akron as well as being a homemaker.

She attended Akron Church of God, where she served in many roles. She always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved flowers, gardening, puzzles and cooking.

Survivors include her daughters: Connie (husband Kevin) Jones, Rochester; Carol (husband Stan) Mitterling, Akron; and Mary Hall, Winchester, Ky.; sons, Tom Hopkins Jr., Warsaw, and Don (wife Beth) Hopkins, Akron; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe Shepherd, Silver Lake, and Jeff (wife Vicki) Shepherd, Leesburg; and sisters, Jane Harman, Wabash, and Avanell (husband Gary) Smith, Akron. Also surviving are her late husband Cecil’s children: Kay (husband Dean), Bill (wife Lucy) and Ron (wife Jan).

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Thomas Hopkins and Cecil Shoemaker; six brothers; and three sisters.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 9, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Kathy Nelson and Pastor Terry Canfield officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.

Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 8, at Hartzler Funeral Home.
