Did you read in the paper Tuesday night the progress of the Tippy/Chapman sewer project? Here is a summary of it:
“At this point in time we are not expecting to implement a connection fee,” said Jones. “There will be property owner expenses relative to the connection of their private improvements to the public infrastructure.” Great! No connection fee. But what are the property owner expenses you can expect to pay for this?
Homeowners will have to abandon and render unusable their existing septic tank. Jones estimated a cost of somewhere between $600 and $900 for the property abandonment of the septic system and somewhere between $20 and $30 per foot to make the physical connection to the public works system. So how far does your house set from the road? 100 feet? You can expect to pay between $2000 and $3000 to hook up.
Right now they plan to hook up to Warsaw’s sewage plant. The total estimated cost of the project at this time is between 37.5 and 39.5 million dollars. If they do not get any grants from the state, you can expect to pay $98 to $108 per month for sewage.
This is being presented to the County Council Thursday night for a vote; then, if it is voted in, they will present it to the state. Once it is presented to the state, we will have 180 days to gather signatures against it on a petition. It takes 51% to stop it. If you don’t agree with this, you can sign the petition against it. If you go to StopTheSewer.org there is a form there that you can fill out with your information. Your information will not be given out to other people. Someone will come to your house with a petition to sign. If you are worried about your neighbors finding out, and they don’t agree, your signing will be kept confidential.
