COLUMBIA CITY – Ollie M. Roberts, 110, formerly of Columbia City, died at 3 p.m. April 30, 2016, at Lutheran Life Villages at Pine Valley, Fort Wayne.
She was born Jan. 17, 1906, in Garrett, Ky., to John H. and Elizabeth Wireman Neeley. In 1933, she was united in marriage to Edward A. Hensley, who died in 1963. On Nov. 10, 1963, she married E.P. Joseph, who died in 1982.
A centenarian plus 10, she was the oldest living person in the state of Indiana and 52nd oldest in the world. She spent her formative years in Floyd County, Ky. After raising her children, she worked as a nurse’s aid for Little Company of Mary, San Pierre, for seven years and Miller Merry Manor, Columbia City. An accomplished seamstress, she made dozens of quilts, which now have become family heirlooms. She was a former member of the Pentecostal Church, Columbia City. She was also a former member of the Daughters of Rebekah (Rebekahs).
She is survived by her son, Paul E. Hensley (and spouse Barbara Joe) Welch, Mentone; a daughter, Barbara Jean McNulty, Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Myrtle England, Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; a sister; and a son-in-law, Gerald McNulty.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be in Nolt Cemetery.
Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
