Not The America We Know

Posted

Editor, Times-Union:

Red alert! The democracy of the United States of America is at a dangerous level of risk.

The latest new reports with sound bytes of some of the 2,000 or more children crossing our border who are flowing in for asylum. These families are faced with losing their lives, and the lives of their precious children in their countries. Their only hope to save their lives, and the lives of their children, is crossing the border into the United States. The citizens of the United States have seen the truth of the families seeking asylum, and we have heard their weeping, and their horrible cries from being torn from their parents. America needs to wake up!

This new policy of separation has not been law in the United States, but it was instituted on April 16, 2018. This policy is the work of John Kelly and Steve Miller, and this Administration is enforcing this horrible travesty to stop immigrants and their hope for freedom. President Trump signed the policy, and it was adopted by Jeff Sessions, attorney general. Now the policy is in full force, destroying and traumatizing innocent families and their children. This policy is a disgrace to our great nation!

The ACLU alleges that this action violates the U.S. Asylum Act, and the United Nations asserts that it violates the United Nations Treaty on the State of Refugees. The ACLU asserts that this policy is an illegal act on the part of the United States.

This is not the America that we know. This is a horrible action forced on innocent families.

I believe America is being led astray from the fundamental beliefs that Jesus instructed His followers to live by. In Jesus’ last sermon, "The Olivet Discourse," Jesus gives signs of the end of the age in Matthew 24:4: "Watch out that no one deceives you." In Matthew 25:34: "Then the King will say to those on His right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the Kingdom prepared for you since the Creation of the World. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, etc." Then verse 37: "Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink, when did we see you a stranger and invite you in?" Verse 40: The King will reply, "I tell you the Truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did it for me."

Now is the time for "We the People" to take a stand, not only with prayer, but also actions individually, and in our places of worship. There are elected officials who are supporting this corrupt policy, this evil action toward humanity! Please, let us all come together not as Blue or Red, but as children of our Creator. My prayer is that each of us will research these issues, search for the truth and for the issues that are total lies.

Our Constitution of the United States says, "One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and JUSTICE FOR ALL." If we as a nation do not stand up at this time for our democracy, our civil rights that so many Americans have suffered and even died for will be lost, and America will lose its soul.

Editor’s Note: "One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all" appears in the Pledge of Allegiance, not the Constitution.
