The Syracuse/Lake Wawasee community in northeast Kosciusko County is only five miles down-wind from the proposed Milford facility. We wished to clearly show them its impact on their area. Some of the many factors that make it undesirable in this location are: caustic emissions, traffic of 48,000 semi trucks of corn yearly on the Syracuse/Milford road, huge amounts of water pumped from our aquifer to produce the ethanol, plus many other quality of life issues such as odor, noise, dust, etc.

A large number of responses to these information pamphlets have already been returned indicating their support with donations for legal expenses and signatures for our petition. The NLACC has received more than 500 signed petitions from the Syracuse/Lake Wawasee area. These are in addition to the 1,200 previous signatures from the Milford/Dewart Lake citizens against the refinery. We continue to receive more responses and signatures everyday against the ethanol refinery.

In a recent interview with WRSW about the Milford ethanol controversy, our governor, Mitch Daniels, publicly stated no community should be subjected to what its citizenry has opposed. In a later interview, Department of Agriculture Director Andy Miller made similar comments. This outpouring of opposition from the citizens in northern Kosciusko County should help our local governing officials make an informed decision against the proposed refinery.
