Editor, Times-Union:
If you run in the Republican Party, you generally believe in the Republican platform. If you were to look at the two candidates for state representative in District 22, you can clearly see that Curt Nisly has done his best to advance the Republican Platform.
The Republican Party states that they believe in limited government. Curt Nisly has constantly voted against government overreach from a ban on scleral tattooing (a ban on a tattoo in your eye) this year, to deregulation on hair braiding in 2017, Curt Nisly has looked to limit government interference in one’s life.
The Republican Party states that they believe in responsible government. Curt Nisly has been opposed to increased taxes, such as the gas tax, and the expansion of the wheel tax in 2017, in 2016. Curt Nisly believes that if anyone should have to tighten their belts, it should be the government.
The Republican Party states that they believe in the Second Amendment. Curt Nisly has defended the Second Amendment by authoring a bill that would have nullified federal gun laws in Indiana in 2015, to attempting to amend a bill for constitutional carry in 2016. Curt Nisly has an “A” rating and is endorsed by the NRA, and received the .50 Caliber Award from the National Association for Gun Rights. His opponent feels that you have to have a license in order to exercise your Second Amendment rights.
The Republican Party believes in the sanctity of life. Curt Nisly authored the Protection at Conception Act, which would ban abortion in the state of Indiana. Despite its opposition from other pro-life groups, Curt Nisly stands for the unborn, when other politicians play lip service. His opponent says that we shouldn’t be paying ACLU money from Hoosier taxpayers, yet the state has paid over $2 million to the ACLU over the last eight years defending other “pro-life” bills.
If you are looking for a Republican to advance the party platform in Indianapolis, you do not have to look far in District 22. That man is Curt Nisly. A man with a proven record of defending the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. His opponent hasn’t even finished her term on the county council and is already looking for her next position. She claims that Curt Nisly is an ineffective legislator; yet, when you ask her what her definition of an effective legislator is, she can’t answer it.
We can have a candidate who pays lip service to trying to represent the constituents, but would rather listen to other government officials and “experts.” Or we could have a candidate who is out actively seeking our opinions and doing their best to represent us to Indianapolis, not represent Indianapolis to us. I’ll be choosing wisely and voting for Curt Nisly on May 8.
