Nicodemus Pitches Wildcats Past Trojans To Lead Roundup

   BOURBON — The Whitko baseball team hit the road Tuesday, defeating Triton 9-5 in Bourbon.
   With the win, Whitko now sits at 9-4 as they prepare to host Tippecanoe Valley today, while Triton is 4-7 and travels to Jimtown today.
   Getting to win No. 9, the Whitko Wildcats got a good pitching performance from sophomore Ethan Nicodemus, who went the distance, giving up seven hits.
   Helping his own cause, Nicodemus also went 2 for 4 at the dish, hitting a triple and driving in two runs.
   For Triton, senior Zak Shively went 2 for 4, with a triple of his own.

The Tippecanoe Valley baseball team struggled to plate runs in a 6-0 loss at Culver Military Academy Tuesday. Facing three different CMA pitchers, Valley generated just four hits in the loss, all being singles. Valley is right back in action today, traveling to South Whitley to take on Whitko in a Three Rivers Conference game.

The Warsaw girls tennis team remained perfect in Northern Lakes Conference play Tuesday, posting a 4-1 win at Elkhart Memorial. In the victory, senior Sarah Hartle lost her opening set 6-3, but rebounded to take the second in a 7-6 (7-4) tiebreaker and the third 6-1. The Lady Tigers will attempt to improve to 4-0 in the NLC Thursday at home against Wawasee.

Competing in a three-way Three Rivers Conference meet at Northfield Tuesday, the Whitko boys track and field team tallied 116 points, while Manchester scored 75.5 and Northfield finished with 43.5. Individually, Whitko’s Trapper Mize won the 1600 (4:40.8) and 800 (2:11.4), while Manchester’s Kegan McNeeley was victorious in the 100 (10.8) and 200 (22.9) and his teammate Brodi Carter won the 110 hurdles (16.7) and 300 hurdles (44.2).

Whitko led the meet with 95 points, followed by Manchester’s 72, Northfield’s 41 and Lakeland Christian Academy’s 36. Individually, Whitko received wins from Micaela Sylvester (300 hurdles), Holly Frantz (800), Sydney Sims (pole vault) and Miranda Terrill (high jump).
