Natural Drugs

Editor, Times-Union:

In response to Tom Metzger's letter "Meth & Other Drugs", Mr. Metzger I, too, agree that the suppression of marijuana and other natural drugs has and is causing mayhem in society. The use of marijuana and other natural drugs is not new. History shows humans have been using plant-derived drugs for various reasons for thousands of years, and as far as we know, since Homo sapiens first appeared on the planet.

In addition, some scholars believe that every human culture, and every class of animal, makes use of certain plants for their psychoactive properties. In fact, there are some who believe that the desire for intoxication is actually a fourth drive, as unstoppable as hunger, thirst and sex. So then, what happens when you suppress, or deny this natural desire? Well, I suppose you find alternative methods, consequently, Meth and other harmful synthetic drugs come into being, especially big pharma.

Yes, Mr. Metzger, I, too, agree that if beginning decades ago our natural drugs were allowed to evolve with our society to a certain homeostasis, therefore, we might not have the mayhem that we do at the present time. No doubt, we might not have drugs like Meth, Crack and Prozac. However, the interest of the stronger patented and denied the bountiful harvest of the earth and took control of the human libidinal market. They monopolized human pain and suffering. They used the nature of humanity and the desire for intoxication as a means to fill their treasury.

Billions of dollars a year is being spent to suppress our natural drugs, while destroying costless lives of citizens and their families. Approximately half of the 2.1 million people in America's prisons and jails are behind bars due to drug laws. Since 1992, nearly seven million Americans have been arrested for marijuana.

Consequently, we rank first in the world in locking up our fellow citizens. The privately owned prison industry complex is one of the fastest-growing industries in the United States. This multimillion-dollar industry has its own trade exhibitions, conventions, Web sites and mail-order/Internet catalogs.

Consequently, protection of corporate profits, yellow journalism, personal career advancement and greed have ruined the lives of many hard-working Americans whose only crime is to be human and, consequently, to partake in the bountiful harvest of the earth. History clearly shows that the bountiful harvest of the earth has been patented and denied to the citizens of this country by individuals with self-serving interest in mind; consequently, to deceive the American people in order to deny, and subjugate the human libido market. We as citizens, we need to leave our private world of phantoms and engage in the reality of life, and eradicate the prejudices and propaganda about our natural drugs that has destroyed so many human lives for decades. Yes, Mr. Metzger, I do agree that the suppression of marijuana and other natural drugs has and is causing mayhem in society.
