Let me share a story with you. I was located in California for over 40 years but now have relocated back to my home state of Indiana. When I ran for Congress in the 43rd Congressional District in southern California, a black supporter by the name of Dr. Henry Corey had attempted to get citizenship awards for me from both the VFW and the American Legion with little success. In fact, this black Korean war vet was thrown out of both organizations for his trouble.
But the interesting part of the story is that Dr. Corey enrolled me with the NAACP. I received a membership card and all the proper credentials. For a couple of months I was a bona fide NAACP member until someone in the news picked up on it. At that point the NAACP went into shock and sent all kinds of paperwork that I was no longer a member. I don't think I still have the membership card but I wish I did. Considering the flap over the Tea Baggers I am curious about one thing. The leader of the NAACP looks as white as some people I've seen at Klan meetings in years past. I have not been involved in the Klan since 1980. On the other hand the spokesman for the racist Tea Baggers appears to be pretty black.
