Moriarty To Return As Valley Assistant CoachAKRON – Tippecanoe Valley football coach Steve Moriarty will return to the team today as an assistant coach after being suspended as head coach last week, according to a statement released by the school corporation late Monday afternoon.

Jeff Shriver will remain in place as interim head coach.

The brief statement said “Jeff Shriver will assume all head coaching responsibilities at Tippecanoe Valley High School for the remainder of the 2017 football season.  Stephen Moriarty will return this week as a member of the coaching staff.”

Moriarty, hired as head coach on Jan. 16, was suspended for “conduct unbecoming a head coach” after an incident in the locker room at halftime of the Sept. 29 game at Rochester. While addressing the team, Moriarty threw two crates containing water bottles. One crate bounced off a wall and struck a player with enough force to warrant holding him out of the second half of the game. The player was medically cleared to return early last week.

The school corporation‘s board or trustees held an executive session Thursday to decide Moriarty’s fate.

For Shriver, a former Valley head coach, this is his second stint as an interim head coach. He and Aaron Norris served as co-head coaches following the resignation of Darin Holsopple three games into his second season at the helm. Shriver had a 47-34 record with one sectional win as head coach from 2006-13. Shriver and Norris led Valley to three wins in its last seven games in 2016.
