AKRON – Mildred Marie Smith, 94, of 7122 E. Fort Wayne Road, Akron, died at 9:43 a.m. June 16, 2012, in Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, where she resided for six years.
She was born Sept. 23, 1917, in Fulton County, to Charles E. and Dolly Blanche Rogers Towne. On Oct. 6, 1940, in Akron, she married Ned J. Smith, who died May 26, 2005.
She was a homemaker and a graduate of Richland Center High School. She was a member of the former Famous Akron Jonah Club. She and her husband were honorary members of the board of the Prill School Museum.
Surviving are two daughter, Marilyn (and spouse Asa) Brofford and Janet (and spouse Jerry) Vigar, all of Akron; two sons, J. Duane Smith, Rochester, and Lynn (and spouse Kay) Smith, Akron; 10 grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, a brother and a sister.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with the Rev. Phillip Pratt officiating. Burial will be in Athens Cemetery.
