Mildred Cora Metzger, 92, of Elkhart, and formerly of Pierceton, died at 9:45 a.m. April 1, 2010, in Golden Living Center of Elkhart County.
She was born Nov. 22, 1917, in Kosciusko County, to Grover and Beatrice Sleighter Long. On Nov. 23, 1935, in Pierceton, she married Joe Metzger, who died Dec. 10, 2007.
Living in Kosciusko County most of her life, she worked at Oppenheim's Dept. Store for many years until retiring. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Pierceton, and a former member of the Women's Relief Corps Auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic.
Surviving are a son, Jerry (and spouse Dorma) Metzger, Goshen; a grandson, Duane (and spouse Marcy) Metzger, Edwardsburg, Mich.; two granddaughters, Anita (and spouse Randy) Meade, Goshen, and Lynette Metzger, Elkhart; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
A private graveside service will in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton, with Pastor Greg Morris officiating.
No calling is planned.
