A silo was destroyed during a storm in Silver Lake Friday night.
A microburst, a small localized air current, caused the damage, according to Matt Frazier, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in North Webster. Microbursts can cause a lot of damage in a short amount time especially in a localized area, Frazier said.
The storm occurred from about 10 to 11 p.m. The burst traveled in a northeast to southeast direction, Frazier said. Some houses had wind damage and trees were uprooted. At least one uprooted tree fell on a house, but no injuries were reported. The house likely will be considered a total loss, according to Ed Rock, Kosciusko County Emergency Management director. Most of the destroyed barns and buildings were insured so Rock was unable to provide a total damage amount.
“We got very lucky,” he said.
