PLYMOUTH – Michele Ellen Delp Wendel, 56, of Plymouth, comforted by her family during her courageous and graceful battle with cancer, is now at rest and joined her Heavenly Father April 17, 2012. She was born July 10, 1956, in Warsaw, to Richard and Karen Apple Delp. On June 26, 1976, in Plymouth, Michele and Donald Wendel, the love of her life and high school sweetheart, were married. He survives. She was a lifelong resident of Marshall County and was a graduate of Plymouth High School with the class of 1974. She loved her family very much and they were always her first priority even in her final weeks. She will be greatly missed. A part owner of Michiana Contracting Inc., Plymouth, she worked alongside her husband and brothers since 1986 as the human resources director. Prior to Michigan, she grew up around and worked at Delp Electric Inc., her parents’ business, from which she learned her strong work ethic. She also made cakes, especially wedding cakes, with her sister for several years. She was an active member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, a philanthropic organization, since 1982. She has served on the board of the Cancer Association of Marshall County and committee member of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, “Catch The Spirit” gala. She was a member of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church. She will always be remembered as a kind, gentle, caring, compassionate, organized, generous, strong woman and especially for her beautiful smile. Also surviving are her three beautiful daughters and grandchildren: Valerie (and spouse Joe) Medema; their daughter, Brooke, Schoolcraft, Mich.; Laura (and spouse Zack) Scott, their children, Gradyn and Maisy, Plymouth; and Stacey (and spouse Jordan) Adams, Nappanee; a sister-in-law, Kathy (and spouse Jim) Jones, Sierra Vista, Ariz.; brothers-in-law, John (and spouse Sue) Wendel and Paul Wendel, both of Plymouth; and Phil Wendel, Atlanta, Ga.; and their children. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Raymond and Laura Delp; her maternal grandfather, Hershel Apple; and her mother-in-law, Geraldine Wendel. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Plymouth Wesleyan Church, with Pastor Oliver Dongell officiating. Burial will be in New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth. Calling is from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Plymouth Wesleyan Church, 11203 S. Michigan St., Plymouth.
