Melvin Earl Weaver, 75, of 1924 Rosemont Ave., Warsaw, died at 5 p.m. Sept. 12, 2009, in his residence.
He was born Aug. 15, 1934, in Petersburg, to Homer Franklin and Grace Fett Weaver. On June 4, 1994, in Warsaw, he married June Evelyn May, who survives.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Feb. 1, 1953, serving in the Korean War until his honorable discharge on Aug. 12, 1955. Prior to moving to Warsaw in 1989, he lived and worked in Van Wert, Ohio, and Wabash, where he worked as a house parent at White's Institute. He was a maintenance man and bus driver for the Warsaw Community School Corp. until retirement in 2007. He was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 20 years and a member of Warsaw Wesleyan Church.
Also surviving are six sons: Jim (and spouse Cindi) Weaver, Fairfield, Ohio; Dennis Weaver, Warsaw; David Gross, Talma; Bill Weaver, Louisville, Ky.; Ryan (and spouse Theresa) Weaver, Flemington, N.J.; and Brett (and spouse Susan) Weaver, Fort Wayne; five daughters: Diane (and spouse Mike) Sopher, Roann; Cristie (and spouse Dan) Sweeny, Silver Lake; Shelly Thomas, Warsaw; Cara (and spouse Troy) Franks, Larwill; and Laura (and spouse Matt) Preston, Green Bay, Wis.; 21 grandchildren; two brothers, Harold (and spouse Mary) Weaver, Lima Ohio, and Gerald (and spouse Phyllis) Weaver, Detroit, Mich.; and a sister, Marilyn (and spouse Heb) Hanthorn, Lima. He was preceded in death by a daughter.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastors Gale Janofski and Andy Weaver officiating, and with military rites by members of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans for Foreign Wars 1126, both in Warsaw. Burial will be in Sycamore Cemetery, Talma.
