NAPPANEE - Melvin D. Zimmerman, 81, of 12634 N. CR 300W, and a winter resident of Bonita Springs, Fla., died Jan. 20, 2011, while on a cruse line to Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

He was born July 15, 1929, in Milford, to Michael Sr. and Madlin Stieglitz Zimmerman. On Aug. 19, 1950, in Warsaw, she married Johanna Alderfer, who survives.

A lifetime Milford resident, he was a farmer and a member of Living Gospel Church.

Also surviving are two sons, Tony (and spouse Ruth) Zimmerman, Milford, and Terry (and spouse Brenda) Zimmerman, Goshen; a daughter, Barbara Zimmerman, Milford; three grandsons: Jeff (and spouse Leslie) Zimmerman, Ligonier; Mark (and spouse Tanya) Zimmerman, Dahlonega, Ga.; and Paul Troyer, Goshen; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Virgil (and spouse Doris) Zimmerman and Michael Jr. (and spouse Carolyn) Zimmerman, all of Milford, and Raymond (and spouse Diane) Zimmerman, Lehi, Utah; and a sister, Mary (and spouse Jack) Gerber, Paulding, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Zimmerman.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Living Gospel Church, Nappanee, with the Rev. David Soliday officiating. Burial will be in Milford Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, 950 N. Main St., Nappanee, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
