Mearlene Engle Kassebaum, 84, formerly of Warsaw, died Aug. 4, 2010, in Bonner General Hospital, Sandpoint, Idaho, where she resided.
She was born Jan. 6, 1926, at Beaver Dam, to Merl R. and Blanche Harper Engle. On June 30, 1946, in Winona Lake, she married Joe S. Kassebaum, who survives.
She worked at Bodkins Abstract Co., Warsaw, and while her husband was in the U.S. Marine Corps, they lived in eight different states prior to moving to Sandpoint in 1978 from Oceanside, Calif., where she served as vice president of Oceanside National Bank. She graduated from Warsaw High School in 1944. She attended Sand Point Fellowship Church.
Also surviving are a son, Bruce A. (and spouse Siri) Kassebaum, Vista, Calif.; a daughter, JoEllen Kassebaum, Encinitas, Calif.; three sisters, Nancy (and spouse John) Kleeman, Florida, and Ruth Seiffert and Frances Noble, both of Warsaw; two brothers, Royse (and spouse Earline) Engle, Winona Lake, and Max (and spouse Barbara) Engle, Warsaw; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother.
A graveside service was held today at Pack River Cemetery with Pastor Harvey Riffle officiating.
