McBush

Editor, Times-Union:

In 2000, the corporate media sold Americans - with help from the Supreme Court - a not very bright, Texas governor with a history of drunkenness and business failures. He was supposed to restore integrity to the White House.

In 2004, the media touted the same knuckle-dragging neanderthal, sorry to all neanderthals, using fear and "a guy we'd most like to have a beer with."

In 2008, having lost my job and health insurance, I've had about all the Republican "integrity" I can stomach and I don't need a drinkin' buddy.

Now the media has transformed a man with untold numbers of houses, who has the opinion that anyone making less than $5 million a year is middle class, and favors $500 Ferragamo shoes as just an average Joe.

My friend Matt out in San Diego enunciated many of Sen. McBush's hypocrisies, but I'd like to add a few more. I'd like the media to ask him why he continually votes against veterans' issues. I'd like to know why his campaign staff, many of who worked on the 2004 Bush campaign, feel it's OK to use Sen. McBush's military service as a campaign issue, but mocked and ridiculed Sen. Kerry's military service four years ago. I'd like to know if foreign policy in his administration would include bribing people not to fight as is the case in Iraq. And I'd like to know if he realized that his much-hated earmarks make up less than 1 percent of the budget, and what's he going to do about the other 99 percent?

Next with guns a "blazin'" comes the insufferable, sanctimonious piece of right-wing fluff; the lovely Mrs. Sarah. If the media ever gets done gushing over her, I hope they ask her some of the following. I am curious about the judgment of a mother that casts her pregnant, unmarried, 17-year-old daughter in the public eye in order to further her own political career. I hope they ask her about her radical pro-birth, anti-life views. In Alaska she cut funding for special-needs children, funding for programs for teen moms and decreased home heating assistance for the elderly. Not much of a pro-life attitude there. I hope they ask her if she will be working for 75 percent of the usual vice presidential salary since she opposes equal pay for equal work.

The McBush campaign made the ridiculous assertion that since Alaska and Russia are geographically close, then the lovely Ms. Sarah is surely as foreign policy expert. Does that mean that since my Amish neighbors have horses then I am qualified to be a veterinarian?

On a local media level, I couldn't help but notice our Times-Union carried nary a word about Sen. Obama's acceptance speech, while one week later Sen. McBush rated a quarter page. I know Gary hates Democrats but from a historic standpoint a mention would have been nice. I hope the reason wasn't one I so often hear. You know, the one that begins "I'm not a racist, but ..."
