Max H. Shideler, 83, Muncie, formerly of Warsaw, passed away Oct. 26, 2015, at Bethel Pointe Health and Rehabilitation following an extended illness. He was born May 29, 1932, in Huntington, to the late Hazen and Emmalu Shideler. He married Cophine, who survives, and they were together 64 years. He graduated from Warsaw High School in 1950 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in education from Ball State University in 1954. He worked as a teacher at Rensselaer High School from 1954 to 1957. He worked for Purdue University as a systems analyst from 1957 to 1971, and retired from Ball State University as director of finance in 1998 after 27 years. While at Ball State he was very instrumental in computerizing their payroll and finances. He was an active member of Yorktown United Methodist Church, BSU Alumni Association and the Cardinal Varsity Club. He enjoyed most all sports, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three children: Leigh Ellen Peters, Muncie; Randy (and spouse Wendy) Shideler, Noblesville; Denise (and spouse Ted) Shockley, Albany; four grandchildren: Shelley Likens, Kyle (and spouse Monica) Wilbur, Travis (and spouse Nydia) Shockley, and Tiffaney (and spouse Eric) McClurg; 14 great-grandchildren: Joey Bourne, Mikey Carter, Darius Carter, Da’Nae Carter, Da’Leigha Behnke, Kaleigh Likens, Karmin Likens, John Likens, Hailey Wilbur, Haiden Wilbur, Maci McClurg, Drake McClurg, Mia Shockley, Kevin Munoz; an uncle, Edson (and spouse Val) Finkenbiner; and a brother-in-law, Jim Keeton. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Monna Goon and Peggy Keeton; and one granddaughter, Jennifer Behnke. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. Ind. 3, Muncie, with Pastor Peter Curts officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
