Nine more Marsh Supermarkets are closing their doors, including the Warsaw store at 500 S. Buffalo St.
Warsaw store is one of four Marsh Supermarkets that will close on May 21. The other five will shut its doors on May 27.
The company issued the following statement: “Today we reluctantly announced the closing of nine additional Marsh locations. Our decision was solely the product of the difficult competitive environment and in no way reflects on the efforts of the great associates working in these stores.
A manager at the store declined comment Thursday afternoon, referring all questions to the corporate office.
She also declined to say how many workers are employed at the store.
Marsh constructed the South Buffalo Street store in the early 1990s on the site where Murphy Medical Center had been located for decades.
Previously, the company had a store on East Market Street.
Marsh chose the South Buffalo location after city officials chose Zimmer Inc. over the grocery store chain for a development south of Center Lake where Warsaw Freshman High had been located.
Zimmer then constructed its world headquarters at the site.
Other stores set to close include properties in Indianapolis, Fishers, Carmel, Noblesville, Plainfield, Anderson and Muncie.
After those closings, Marsh will operate just 45 stores, down from 120 in 2006, according to a report from Indianapolis Business Journal.
