Mark Dimon 'Buckwheat Hambone' Hanna

Mark Dimon “Buckwheat Hambone” Hanna, 57, of 16 EMS C24 G Lane, Warsaw, died at 11:43 p.m. March 11, 2012, in his residence.

He was born Aug. 7, 1954, in Warsaw, to Ardel and Virginia Dimon Hanna. In October 1974, he married Cheryl Hesselgrave Gordon. They divorced in 1990. In November 2000, he married Sheryl Stokes, who survives.

He worked at Zimmer Inc. for 40 years as a lead man in distribution. His activities were playing basketball at the Baker Youth Club for seven years; played high school football and basketball; refereed men’s independent basketball; played men’s slow pitch softball for Warsaw Sporting Goods and Holiday Lanes; coached little league baseball; bowled for Warsaw Sporting Goods and Moore’s Plumbing bowling leagues; raced at Warsaw Speedway in 1974 in the late model division; followed the World of Outlaw sprint car races at Eldora Speedway, Ohio, for more than 25 years; and was a diehard Chicago Bears and Notre Dame Fan.

He loved his lake life at Chapman Lake, as he loved to fish and putt around the lake on his pontoon. He loved spending his weekends at “Buckwheat’s Bay” or just relaxing with his family and friends at the sandbar.

Also surviving are his children, Shane (and spouse Nanci) Hanna, Nicole (and spouse Tom) Westerhof,  Amy (and spouse Keith) Pfeiffer and Tyler Ingle, all of Warsaw, and Travis (and spouse Michelle) Perney, North Manchester; grandchildren, Alexcis, Bayleigh and Logan Hanna and Harper Westerhof, all of Warsaw, and Danielle Bumbaugh and Landon, Joey, Jake and Isabelle Perney, all of North Manchester; his mother, Virginia Hanna, Warsaw; and two brothers Mike (and spouse Sheryl) Hanna and John Hanna, all of Warsaw. He is preceded in death by his father, Ardel Hanna.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at  McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, with Chaplain Bob Jarboe officiating.

Calling is from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
