Margaret V. 'Maggie' Black

AKRON – Margaret V. “Maggie” Black, 82, rural Akron, died at 5 a.m. Feb. 1, 2016, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.
She was born Nov. 1, 1933, in Pendleton, to Richard and Irene Umbenhour Hodges. On Nov. 3, 1951, in Akron, she married Gene Black, who survives in Akron.
She was a homemaker and worked for R.R. Donnelley and Sons of Warsaw, retiring after 24 years. She was a 1951 graduate of Mentone High School. She attended the Akron Church of God. She enjoyed reading, collecting glass, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Also surviving are two daughters, Amy Black and Arissa (and spouse Dan “Jake”) Grossman, all of Akron; two sons, Allen (and spouse Janet) Black, Akron, and Henry “Hank” (and spouse Susan) Black, Warsaw; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Cornileus Hodges, North Carolina; and a brother-in-law, Athur Sohlke, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Amber A. Black; a daughter, Althea Black; a granddaughter, Catherine Grossman; two sisters and four brothers.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron. Burial will be in Nichols Cemetery, Akron.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
