HUNTINGTON – The Manchester Lady Squires beat Warsaw by nine stokes, but also lost their first match of the season to Huntington North in a three-way competition at Norwood Golf Club Thursday.
Huntington North, led by 39s from co-medalists Amara Eckert and Laura Ham, won the event with a 169, followed by Manchester’s 175 and Warsaw’s 184.
The Lady Squires are now 13-1 in dual competition, while the Lady Tigers fell to 12-6.
Thursday’s match was originally scheduled to feature Warsaw and Manchester and be played at Sycamore Golf Club in North Manchester, but was moved to Norwood after the Lady Squires’ match with Huntington North was postponed on Wednesday.
Manchester will play at Norwood again Saturday in the Three Rivers Conference Championships.
“We played OK tonight,” said Manchester coach Josh Troyer. “You could tell we had not played at Norwood in a while, as our short game was not where we need it to be. We will keep working and prepare for Saturday.”
The Lady Squires’ scores were consistent, as all five varsity players finished between 43 and 46.
Kelsey Eichenauer and Sam Kissell led Manchester with 43s, while Madyson Ulrey carded a 44, Cora Barnett a 45 and Lydia Little a 46.
In JV action, Morgan Stroud and Alissa Bickerstaff finished with a 56 and 59, respectively, for the Lady Squires.
Warsaw’s four scoring players finished between 44 and 49.
Miriam Hagg led the Lady Tigers with a 44, followed by Delaney Wihebrink (45), Grayson Kilburn (46), Izzy Ray (49) and Madelyn Ray (51).
For Warsaw, Thursday’s match was a final tuneup for Saturday’s Northern Lakes Conference Championships at Pretty Lake Golf Club in Plymouth.
“We feel confident heading into the NLC Tournament,” said Warsaw coach Tad Nieter. “We are becoming more and more consistent, not just with our scores but with each facet of our team's game. We are close to having a breakthrough round that could propel us to the next tier of our potential. As long as we stay within ourselves, we will be just fine.”
The Lady Tigers’ JV team was led by Anna Morgan and Valerie Messmore, both of whom shot 51. Julia Hildebrand shot 53, followed by Brooklyn Fitzgerald (57) and Cassidy Good (58).
