Manchester Volleyball Team's Annual Tournament Leads Roundup

NORTH MANCHESTER — Lakewood Park Christian won Saturday’s 19th Annual Manchester Volleyball Tournament by going 3-0. En route to the win, Lakewood Park defeated Tippecanoe Valley (27-25, 25-20), Tri-Central (25-17, 25-20) and Manchester (25-10, 25-17). Tippy Valley finished 2-1, while Manchester was 0-3. For Valley, Kelsey Ball led the way with 18 kills, six aces and six blocks. Manchester and Valley are both at home Tuesday, as the Lady Squires host Wawasee and the Lady Vikings welcome in South Bend St. Joseph. MANCHESTER TOURNAMENT 1st Rd. — Tri-Central def. The Wawasee volleyball team reached the championship match at Saturday’s Westview Tournament, but fell to Angola. To reach the title match, Wawasee defeated Eastside, John Glenn and West Noble, but fell 25-20, 24-26, 15-6 to Angola. In the tournament, Wawasee was led by Anne Beer’s 55 digs and 18 kills. Whitko also competed in the tournament, going 1-3. On the day, the Lady Wildcats lost to Concord, Angola and Westview, but did defeat Eastside. The Northfield boys cross country team won its own invitational Saturday with 31 points, while Whitko was fourth (119) and Tippecanoe Valley (161). Competing against nine teams, Northfield’s Caleb Augustus was the overall winner with a time of 16:32, while Whitko’s top runner was Evan Cozad (11th, 18:41) and Valley’s was Brandon Maull (17th, 19:20). Whitko and Valley will be at Tuesday’s Tiger Invitational at Grace College’s Miller Field. The 13th-ranked Warsaw girls cross country team finished third at Saturday’s DeKalb Classic. No. 4 Carroll won the competition with 35 points, followed by No. 9 Northridge’s 81 and Warsaw’s 96. Warsaw senior Ashley Erba set another course record at the meet, winning the race in 18:12, breaking her own record by 42 seconds. The victory was Erba’s fourth straight at the Classic. The Lady Tigers host their own invitational Tuesday at Grace College’s Miller Field.
