A Syracuse man who was out on bond was arrested again for allegedly trying to impersonate a cop.
Kimbert Alvin Gregory Crafton, 32, of 602 W. Boston St., was arrested Friday afternoon on charges of impersonating a public official.
Police say Crafton called the Kosciusko County Dispatch saying he was Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Det. Josh Spangle and looking to speak with a woman, according to court records.
Later, an employee at Kosciusko Community Hospital called the police saying they had a suspicious call from someone seeking information on a patient.
The person claimed to be Spangle but hung up when the employee asked for his badge number. The employee was able to obtain a phone number for the caller, she said.
The caller also said that Warsaw Police Department had been over before at the hospital. Crafton was trying to obtain information on a patient at the birth center.
The woman and Crafton are expecting a child together, according to court records.
Police were able to identify Crafton to his voice on the dispatch recording.
Police contacted Crafton, who admitted he made the call to dispatch, according to charging documents. Police say Crafton said he was sorry and asked if he was going to be prosecuted.
Crafton was out on bond awaiting sentencing from an incident in May.
Police say Crafton stole a trailer from the Nappanee Police Department impound lot and drove off.
An off-duty KCSD officer noticed the stolen trailer near North Webster, after trying to stop Crafton. Crafton led police on a three-county chase that ended near Churubusco.
After a search of Crafton’s North Webster storage unit, other stolen items were found, including an ATV stolen from Mississippi.
Crafton is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $2,250 bond.
