SYRACUSE – Lyle R. Mayhew, 72, Syracuse, passed away at 10:50 p.m. Dec. 15, 2015, at his home.
He was born June 4, 1943, in Clare, Mich., to Arthur and Ethel Johnston Mayhew.
He attended Clare High School, was a U.S. Army veteran, and moved to the Syracuse area in 1983 from Hillsdale, Mich. On Oct. 7, 1994, he married Beth Ann Anglemyer Minnix, who preceded him in death April 14, 2014.
He retired in 2003 from Dana Corporation after 30 years and formerly worked at Culver Military Academy  for three years as a drill sergeant. He was a member of American Legion Post 223, VFW and Eagles Lodge, all of Syracuse.
Surviving are two sons, Rob (and spouse Stacy Naugler) and Mark Mayhew, all of Syracuse; a stepdaughter, Tina (and spouse Steve) Phipps, Warsaw; a stepson, Tracy (and spouse Renee) Minnix, Syracuse; four grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jessie Wilson, Clare, and Annabelle Curtis, Midland, Mich.; two brothers, Leon Mayhew, Prescott, Ariz., and Stewart Mayhew, Coleman, Mich. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, Troy Minnix; a sister, Ramona Stebelton; and two brothers, Bill and Ernest Mayhew.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Pastor Harlan Steffen, Wawasee Lakeside Chapel, officiating. Military services will be performed by American Legion Post 223. Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, Warsaw. Private family burial will take place in the Syracuse Cemetery.
