AKRON — Lorene Spice, 92, formerly of the Akron and Silver Lake areas, died at 4:15 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2018, at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.
She was born Nov. 28, 1925, in Fulton County, to Porter and Luvilla Ballenger Rhodes. She was married by the Rev. Slaybaugh to Donnelly D. Spice on April 19, 1947, in Akron. He survives.
She was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife, doing the work that was needed on the farm.
Lorene was a 1944 graduate of Akron High School. She attended Akron Church of God. She enjoyed sewing and keeping books. She was known to be a great cook.
Survivors include her husband, Don Spice, Rochester; a daughter, Susan (husband Rick) Green, Warsaw; a son, Dennis (wife Linda) Spice, Champaign, Ill.; a son-in-law, Michael Reed, Argos; six grandchildren: Melissa (husband Wayne) Lance, Aimee (husband Luke) Hrabosky, Kristie (husband Justin) Hayes, Danielle Spice, Kevin (wife Vanessa) Green and Eric (wife Amber) Green; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Miller, Rochester.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Sharon Reed, in 2011; sisters: Nina Chapman, Selena Gillespie and Emalene Kindig; and brothers: Porter Rhodes Jr., Tom, Dale, Bobby and infant Loren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 22, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Kathy Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at the funeral home.
