Local Golf Teams Lead Roundup With Conference Tournaments

HUNTINGTON — With three Lingenfelter sisters finishing in the top four, the Rochester girls golf team won Saturday’s Three Rivers Conference Championships.
Played at Huntington’s par-72 LaFontaine Golf Club, Rochester junior Karsten Lingenfelter was the medalist with a 78, junior Kovenant Lingenfelter was second with her 80 and freshman Kinley Lingenfelter shot an 86, finishing fourth.
Totaled up, Rochester shot a 354, while Southwood’s 375 was a distant second.
The Whitko Lady Wildcats finished fourth with a 436, Tippecanoe Valley was sixth (447) and Manchester placed seventh (486).
Whitko’s April Bishop was ninth with a 97 followed by Manchester’s Claire Barnett (98) and Valley’s Alyssa VanMeter (99), who finished ninth and 10th, respectively.
Valley is at Caston today, Manchester travels to face Marion today and Whitko is at Warsaw Tuesday.

Saturday in Bremen
While Bremen was winning Saturday’s Northern State Conference Championships with a 375, Triton was finishing fourth with a 454. Playing on Bremen’s par-72 Sprig O’Mint Golf Course, John Glenn’s Anna Schmeltz had the low round with an 86, while Triton was paced by Hannah Jennings’ 93, which was good for a three-way to for third place. Triton hosts Plymouth and LaVille Wednesday at Rozella Ford Golf Club.

Saturday in Akron
The West Noble boys cross country team won Saturday’s Tippecanoe Valley Invitational with 47 points. Triton placed seventh at the meet with 194, while Valley was eighth (253), Manchester was 11th (263) and Whitko placed 12th (275). West Noble’s Brandon Arnold won the meet in 15:31 and Manchester’s Matthew Fahs-Brown was third in a time of 16:13. Valley was led by Brandon Maull, who finished 28th (17:25), Triton’s top performer was Bryce Wanemacher who placed 30th (17:29) and Whitko was led by Derek Miller, who finished 39th (17:55). Triton returns to Valley Tuesday, while Manchester and Whitko will be at Saturday’s West Noble Invitational.

Saturday in Fort Wayne
The Warsaw girls cross country team finished third at Saturday’s Fort Wayne Northrop Invitational. The 16th-ranked Homestead squad won the Bruin Invitational with 44 points, followed by 19th-ranked Fort Wayne Concordia (74) and Warsaw (113), rounding out the top three. Warsaw’s top finisher was Allison Miller, who placed sixth in a personal-best time of 19:20. Warsaw is at Nappanee’s Callander Sportsplex Tuesday for a three-team, Northern Lakes Conference meet against Northridge and NorthWood.

In Northern Lakes Conference boys soccer play Saturday, the host Wawasee Warriors played to a 3-3 draw with Elkhart Memorial. The draw evens Wawasee season mark at 3-3-3 overall, with the team sitting at 0-2-1 in the NLC. Up next for the Warriors is Wednesday’s game at Columbia City.

The Manchester boys tennis team had two champions at Saturday’s Three Rivers Conference Individual Championships, while Tippecanoe Valley and Whitko each had one. For Manchester, Max Karg was the No. 2 singles champion and the No. 2 doubles team of Morgan Metzger and Noah Cain also placed first. From Valley, the No. 1 doubles team of Logan Britton and Trevor Neeley finished first, as did Whitko’s Tyler Baugher at No. 1 singles. Valley is at Rochester today and Whitko also plays today, traveling for Central Noble. Manchester’s next match isn’t until Tuesday when it hosts Wabash.

The Wawasee volleyball team finished 2-1 at Saturday’s Triton Tournament. On the day, Wawasee defeated Culver (25-16, 25-16) and John Glenn (25-22, 25-15), but lost to Bremen (17-25, 26-24, 15-12). Lydia Katsaropoulos led the Lady Warriors with seven aces and 20 kills and Alli Ousley posted a team-high 60 assists. Wawasee is back in action tonight at home against Westview.
