Making A Difference
Editor, Times-Union: Often times one person can make a big difference and in my opinion the late H. Dale Tucker made a huge difference in the City of Warsaw.
Mayor Tucker played a major role in the construction of the Tiger Apartments and the Senior Center on Park Avenue. But his first love was people and education. Those issues inspired him to launch a campaign to bring an Ivy Tech State College branch campus to this area. When Ivy Tech began to offer classes here, it gave many local citizens an opportunity to further their education without leaving their families and jobs in this area.
Then last winter when Tucker heard that Ivy Tech might be moved to Goshen, he was not happy. He was concerned that some people in Warsaw who had the power to pursuade Ivy Tech to stay weren't doing anything to keep the school here. I told Dale that he got Ivy Tech here in the first place, and that he would have to make sure it stayed. He said, "OK, I know Gerald Lamkin, president of Ivy Tech. He helped me get it here in the first place, I hope he can help me again."
Tucker made the contact with Lamkin and we all know the results. Ivy Tech is still available to the people of Warsaw, thanks to Dale Tucker, who died of cancer on July 30.
I believe the least we can do to thank Mr. Tucker is to start a campaign to name the Ivy Tech library here the "H. Dale Tucker Library" in his honor. Especially now since Ivy Tech has moved to new quarters in the United Office Complex. After all, Ivy Tech State College would not be here if it wasn't for Dale Tucker's efforts.
Our Mayor Ernie Wiggins has offered his help. If you agree with this proposal, please contact Gerald Lamkin at Ivy Tech State College, P.O. Box 1763; Indianapolis, IN 46206-1763. The phone number is 317-921-4882.

NorthWood Coverage
Editor, Times-Union: In response to a letter that stated that NorthWood is not in our county, I wish to inform readers that this information was incorrect. While NorthWood High School is not in our county, parts of the Wa-Nee School Corporation are. Actually, part of the city limits of Nappanee fall into our county as well. So I think that it is only fair that WRSW chose to carry a NorthWood game.
