Cat's Final Hours

Editor, Times-Union:
Saturday evening, July 31st, we returned home to find our cat not in his usual place (since he got ill he spent a lot of his time on "his" chair on our front porch). Thinking that he would return soon, we went about getting dinner. A little after 7 p.m. our phone rang and a very nice lady inquired about a cat that was laying on the road crying, he is missing a leg, and unfortunately she thought he had been hit by a train. After verifying that we lived across the road from where she was, we went outside to retrieve him. The lady who made the call was leaving as we came out the door. Before we ever got off the front porch a wonderful young man came across the road lovingly carrying our cat in his arms and bringing him home. This young man and his family appeared concerned about his missing leg until my boyfriend told them he had lost his leg in October to cancer. Einstein won a few battles in his fight with cancer but he lost the war 24 hours later. He died Sunday, Aug. 1st, almost 24 hours to the minute after being brought home to us.

We would like to sincerely thank these people who saw him and helped him. We are forever grateful to all of you.

You gave us 24 hours more than we may have had if you hadn't found him. We don't know who you are but you are all truly angels. Thank you from all of us, Einstein, Doc and Donna.

Hate The Sin

Editor, Times-Union:
My comments are in response to Jon Treesh's letter, as I'm sure there will be plenty. Jon, your "tongue-in-cheek" letter, while only poking fun, is quite offensive when you take the word of God out of context. In our world, it's called slander. I'm surprised that an ordained minister such as yourself, or anyone for that matter, keeps on reading letters to the editor from us "holier-than-thou" Christians, as you gently put it, and misses the point entirely. I've not read one letter by any Christian that says homosexuals should be put to death, regardless of what God told Moses in the book of Leviticus. Being a minister, I don't really see how you could read Leviticus and still believe that God created some people as homosexuals, actually, anyone that can even read anything should be able to understand Leviticus and know what God was trying to explain to Moses. Christ paid the ultimate debt for our sins on the cross, that is where the Old Testament ways of putting people to death for these things end, but we still have a job to do, and that is to let the world know what God says about the things we do. To anyone else who reads this letter, let's try to get it right this time, ok? Jesus and His followers DO NOT hate homosexuals, liberals or pork-eaters. It's the sin that is an abomination in His eyes.

Cardinal Says Thanks

Editor, Times-Union:
On behalf of our staff and persons served, I want to extend a sincere thank-you to Roz at Our Father's House and to the Sheriff's Department for their generosity and kindness during the County Fair.

Every year during fair week the individuals that we serve are so excited about going and seeing everything that is happening. Unfortunately, most are not able to afford the cost of getting into the fair and then purchasing any extras such as lunch or dinner. This past week our Sheriff's Department allowed not only the individuals to enter the fair during lunch, but staff as well, to go and see the sites, sounds and smells of the County Fair. Roz from Our Father's House gave everyone a great deal on lunches. If it wasn't for their generosity, most of these individuals would not have been able to enjoy this year's fair.

Thank you, Roz, and everyone at the Sheriff's Department. Because of your kindness, you were able to brighten several people's week. Your gift to each person that day ends up as smiles on their faces that lasts for weeks.
