Energy Savings

Editor, Times-Union:

The July 15, 1997 edition of the Times-Union included a well written article by Ms. Laurie Hahn which covered the highlights from the previous night's school board meeting. Her articles are always informative and insightful. I know that many in the school community appreciate her dedication to reporting important events and issues related to Warsaw Community Schools.

In my portion of the school board report Monday night, many facts and figures were discussed. Ms. Hahn's article reported the savings from the energy program at over $300,000 for the past two years. The actual figure for the first two years of the program is a savings, or cost avoidance, of $515,608. The second and most recent year yielded a savings of $314,117. These are taxpayer dollars that would have been spent for utilities but are now available to enhance educational opportunities for Warsaw Community School students.

The credit for this effort belongs to all the employees of Warsaw Community Schools, but the custodial and maintenance personnel should be specifically recognized. The willingness of these dedicated men and women to embrace the energy conservation program has been truly amazing. All school employees have added energy conservation to their daily routine. This effort again demonstrates the devotion of the people of WCS to the community, its resources and its students. As the Energy Manager for Warsaw Schools, I am proud to be associated with the energy program. I am even more proud to be associated with the committed people who make the energy program so successful.
