Perhaps...

Editor, Times-Union:
Perhaps the Meijer folks ought to consider a location outside of the city of Warsaw zoning. Perhaps they would then have the space to develop the project in an orderly manner. Perhaps they would attract other businesses to the area. Perhaps we could have a real mall right here instead of having to visit other communities to purchase what is unavailable and/or more reasonably priced. Perhaps we should think back about why the Scott's store decided to locate somewhere else.

Perhaps they would find county officials more open to considering the real needs of the people of Kosciusko County.

Traffic Problem

Editor, Times-Union:
With all the talk about the intersection at U.S. 30 and Parker Street and how the city may never have the money to ever afford to improve it, I believe I may have a solution that may take care of the problem sooner than everyone may think! We all know how dangerous it is to drive out on U.S. 30 with so many traffic violations such as speeding and the biggie, running lights! So if the Warsaw and State Police were to pull over these traffic offenders on a regular basis give them a hefty fine then put the money into a general fund set aside for the improvement of the Parker Street-U.S. 30 intersection. The money to fix one of Warsaw biggest headaches should be raised in no time, probably with some left over! With this in mind many other wonderful things could be done ,such as better Christmas decorations, funds toward fireworks, more street improvements, more free concerts, etc.! This would benefit all residents inside and outside the city and make a big problem go away!Ê Now, how about getting that awful hill cut down at U.S. 30 and CR 150W, most importantly for our children's sake! Mayor? Govenor?Ê Anyone?

Fire Plan

Editor, Times-Union:
This is in response to the fire June 24 in Green Acres Mobile Home Park. It states in your story that flames were showing when the first men arrived at 1:15. Well, the first men at the scene were actually the volunteer men that came from their home. According to our sheriff's dept the first call came in at 1:12 and the actual fire dept. arrived on scene at 1:24. Our park is not near Leesburg, it is about six miles compared to about two miles to Warsaw.

CR 200N separates us from Plain and Wayne townships, which in turn puts us in Leesburg emergency response teams. Twelve minutes does not sound like a long time, but when you are on the waiting end of this 12 minutes it seems to take forever. I am not finding fault with the Leesburg firemen that responded, they did a great job, but living in this park for almost 15 years, I feel all our homes are at risk for total losses if we have to wait so long for help to arrive. To the first fireman to arrive, I do not take back anything I said to you, you stated you understand and you were frustrated, too. But can you honestly put yourself in any of our shoes that live in a mobile home park? I do think that you were frustrated because our help did not arrive for another nine minutes. When the help did arrive, these men acted very quickly and controlled the fire. There is no way of knowing what the outcome would be if there was a quicker response time. I do feel there must be a better plan that can be in place to get to our area faster. So I ask Plain Township/Leesburg emergency response team, if this was your area of residence, would you not want the same? Our neighbors came together on Saturday to support our friends during this awful fire.

Our prayers and thoughts are with Bob and Becky.

Defends Bush

Editor, Times-Union:
Several letters over the last few days have criticized Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush. I would like to set the record straight as these letters showed considerable misinformation on the part of the writers.

ÊIn the case of the recent execution in Texas, Bush had no control over stopping the execution. Bush could only have stopped the execution on recomendation from the Board of Parole and Pardons.Ê Bush's hands were tied. Carrying out the laws of the state he governs does not constitute murder as one misinformed person expressed.

ÊThe recent high prices at the gas pumps reflect policies of the Clinton/Gore administration. George W. Bush has no control over oil prices as determined by OPEC. As recent as this spring the Clinton administration requested OPEC cut back production so that oil prices would rise. This request reflected a desire of the Clinton administration to assist Russia and China with their economic problems. Higher oil prices would benefit Russian and Chinese oil producers. Also, the Clinton administration sold naval oil reserve fields to Occidental Petroleum and has banned new oil drilling and exploration on several U.S. sites. Democratic presidential nominee, Al Gore, owns almost a million dollars of Occidental Petroleum stock. So who is the real "Oil Man?" - Al Gore is!

ÊI hope this information will help educate those who have the wrong information on George W. Bush. The national press has their favorite candidate and continues to demonize the Republican Party as well as their presidential candidate. I wish that people would open their eyes and realize the damage that Clinton/Gore has done to this country - economically and morally. This country cannot afford another 4-8 years of corrupt policy and programs at the presidential level.

Lakeland Says Thanks

Editor, Times-Union:
The students of Lakeland Christian Academy participated in the Fifth Annual Help-A-Thon on Friday, May 12. Teams of students helped out at area churches and service organizations by doing yard work, painting, cleaning and various office jobs.

This service was offered in appreciation to the surrounding community for their support of the LCA building project.

The school wishes to express their thanks to everyone who has had a part in the construction of our new school.
