Support For EMTs

Editor, Times-Union:
Several months ago the EMTs of the 4-Way Ambulance Service in Mentone came to our Chamber meeting and gave us a need list of equipment. Our Chamber board agreed to kick off a campaign with a donation, followed by a letter to people in the 4-way area asking for donations. The response was overwhelming. On behalf of the 4-Way Ambulance Board and EMTs and the Mentone Chamber of Commerce, we would like to thank you for your generosity. The names of donors are listed in downtown Mentone.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of continuous service by our 4-Way Ambulance Service. This marks hours and hours of volunteer time put in by many for many years. There will be a 25th anniversary open house and health fair, April 29 from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Mentone Fire Station. We urge all of the residents in the 4-Way Ambulance area to attend. This informative open house also will feature door prizes and refreshments. Let us take this time to show our appreciation to those who give so much.

Literacy Volunteers

Editor, Times-Union:
On behalf of the board of directors of Kosciusko Literacy Services, we would like to thank the many volunteers who unselfishly give of their time and talents to assist our students. Our tutors help students learn to read, help them work toward earning their GED and teach them English as a second language. Without our dedicated volunteers, we could not provide these much needed services to our community. Our volunteers "Light the Way" for many residents of Kosciusko County. Thank you, Kosciusko Literacy Volunteers, for all that you do!

Good Deed

Editor, Times-Union:
While visiting my sister, Mirabel Tucker, at Chapman House, a knock came at the door and the group from Head Start came into the room and wished her a Happy Easter and sang several songs for her. What a good deed. It brought tears to her eyes and she enjoyed it a lot. Thanks to the teachers for bringing them to Chapman House. Keep up the good work.

As we continue there will be even more programs. We are trying to have programs for all interests. Mr Felger, our executive director, has done a fine job of supporting our Senior Center. Akron Tree Planting

Editor, Times-Union:
Last year, with the help of the Fulton County Community Foundation, the Akron Lions Club was awarded a Lilly Foundation Grant in the amount of $50,000. The object of the grant was to establish an Urban Forestry Program in Akron. Much of the money was to be spent planting trees along our streets.

On Saturday morning, April 15, the tree planting began. More than 50 volunteers gathered in the community parking lot at 8 a.m. Some brought rakes, shovels, picks and axes. Others brought loada

ers, dump trucks, pickups, bobcats, water tanks and a three-foot auger. Local businesses supplied doughnuts, drinks and sandwiches. All the volunteers went to work with inspiring enthusiasm and more than 70 large trees were planted in a matter of hours. It was an amazing day.

Thanks so much to all the volunteers who laid the groundwork over the course of the past year, and especially to those who came and eagerly donated time and goods on Saturday. We are forever indebted to (businesses and individuals) and the many people who got their hands and knees dirty and helped in other ways. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

In order to complete the project we will plant more trees this fall, and again in the spring of 2001. I hope that all of you are able to continue to help - and invite a friend. I had a lot of fun working with neighbors and friends and with good people I'd only just met. I'm sure there are more great days ahead.

Did anyone get mad at Steven Spielberg when he put the results of humans being brutally tortured and murdered by German Nazis on the movie screen and prime time television?

So, why does anyone get mad at Michael Bailey when he puts the results of humans being brutally tortured and murdered by American abortionists on television?
