Editor, Times-Union: We have been on year-round Daylight-Saving time ever since we were moved from the Central Standard time zone to the Eastern Standard time zone about 20 years or so ago. The first time after the zone change we went on Eastern Daylight time for the first year but never again.

The Real Thing
Here in the Lenten period it will be well forus to take times to think of God's love for us. A definition that I found recently and put on a slip of paper is: "The commmitment of my will to your needs and best interests, regardless of the cost to me." This captures the love of God to you and me. What an awesome, self-denying love this is!
This kind of love is superhuman. It comes only from a supernatural God who made us. For us to have it, we get it from God alone. If we will seek it.
Then I read of a lady, so caught up in the happenings of her favorite TV soap opera, that while in church asked prayer for the couple falling out of love in the soap. When fiction replaces reality, trouble is just ahead for anyone. This is not love from God. There are a lot of people whose lives seem to be scripted by soaps writers. Their lives are restless and unsatisfied. They keep looking for satisfying love in the wrong places. They certainly prove that the myths of magazines, television, movies portrayals of love are acceptable for themselves.
Let us return to God's love for all of us and each of us whom he has created, and daily sustains. Think on his love for aetheists, agnostics, people of all religions; for black, yellow, red and white people. Think on portions of the song we sing at worship:
"When I survey the wondrous cross, on which the prince of glory died
"Did e'er such love and sorrow meet, or thorns compose so rich a crown?
"Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all."
One timeless, yet ever needed Bible verse tells God's love to you and me: "For God so loved the world (you and me) that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever (you and me) believeth in him shall have everlasting life." John 3 :l6
