LCA Buzzer Beater Tops Local Roundup

WINONA LAKE – The Lakeland Christian Academy boys basketball team opened its season in dramatic fashion Tuesday night at home.
Tied 47-47 in the closing moments, senior Billy Bitts hit a 30-foot buzzer beater to defeat Caston 50-47.
Pitts finished the game with eight points, but none were bigger than his final three.
Seniors Calvin Prinsen and Chris Maron led the Cougars with 12 points each, with Prinsen also nabbing six rebounds, the same as senior Zarek Finley.
The Cougars are back in action Tuesday at Jimtown.

The Class 1A No. 6 Triton girls basketball team hung with Class 3A No. 3 NorthWood Tuesday, but fell 59-51 at home. In the loss, in which senior Shana Anderson didn’t play in, junior Taylor Hatfield and sophomore Kylie Mason each netted 19 points, while junior Mallorie Jennings posted nine rebounds. For the taller Black Swish, who outrebounded Triton 42-29, Savannah Bley had 26 points and 13 rebounds, while Morgan Olson had 21 points and 17 boards. The 3-2 Lady Trojans are at Bethany Christian Monday.

Opening its season at home against Manchester Tuesday, the Warsaw boys swim team didn’t have much trouble, winning 145-34. The Tigers swept through the meet, winning all 12 events. The Tigers return to the pool on Nov. 29 at home against NorthWood. Manchester is also in action on Nov. 29, hosting Maconaquah.

The Wawasee girls swim team won 10 of 12 events at East Noble Tuesday, leading to a lopsided 128-57 victory. Individually, sophomore Bre Robinson (200 free, 100 back) and freshman Kayla Hershberger (200 IM, 500 free) each won two events, while sophomore Tori Sylvester (diving), freshman Mikala Mawhorter (100 fly), sophomore Kendra Miller (100 free) and sophomore Rachel Rozow (100 breast) each won one.
