AKRON – Larry Dale “LD” Wright, 53, of 8231 W. CR 900S, Akron, died at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20, 2011, in his residence, after a battle with lung cancer.
He was born March 5, 1958, in Rochester, to Waitsel and Adeline Matzat Wright.
He was a machinist at several orthopedic companies and worked for some time at Purofirst, Mentone, with his close friend Danny Jones. He graduated from Tippecanoe Valley High School in 1977. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 79, Rochester, with assistance from the Lincoln Lodge, Macy. He served in the Indiana National Guard. He was a former co-owner of the Akron Speedway where he had been the announcer and caretaker. He loved auctions, flea markets, fishing, gardening and hunting. He was involved in many community activities in Akron. He was a loving father, son, brother and friend.
Surviving are a daughter, Sara Wright, Akron; a son, Corey Wright, Bloomington; his father, Waitsel “Gummy” Wright, Akron; four sisters: Karen Frolick, Akron; Sharon (and spouse Jay) Heckaman, Silver Lake; Shelly (and spouse Keith) Davison, Warsaw; and Brenda (and spouse Tom) Lester, Noblesville; three brothers, Bruce Hogue, Royce (and spouse Anita) Wright and Rodney Wright and Carrie, all of Akron; and a sister-in-law, Janet Wright, Claypool. He was preceded in death by his mother, Adeline Wright; a brother, Garry L. Wright; a niece, Josie Heckaman; and a sister-in-law, Diana Hogue.
Calling is from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. ***** Memorials may be made to the Kosciusko County Cancer Fund.
