NAPPANEE - LaMar C. Metzler, 83, of 503 N. Hartman St., Nappanee, died at 8 a.m. Sept. 16, 2007, in his residence.
He was born Oct. 2, 1923, in Argyle, Mich., to Floyd and Mary Ercell Cole Metzler. On April 1, 1950, in Nappanee, he married Wilma Seifert, who survives.
A lifetime area resident, he was a Nappanee High School graduate and worked at Adams-Westlake, Elkhart, for 27 years. He was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran, serving with the 489th Bomb Group and 847 Bomb Squadron. He flew 32 missions in the European Theater and was awarded the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the ETO Ribbon with four Bronze Stars and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He attended Nappanee United Methodist Church and was a member of Nappanee American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Also surviving are a son, Steve Metzler, Tempe, Ariz.; two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Val) Yoder, Bremen, and Mrs. Gary (Teresa) Sather, Chandler, Ariz.; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Donald (Mary Alice) Plymale, Elkhart. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Burial will be in South Union Cemetery with a military graveside service by members of Nappanee American Legion.
Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to the service Tuesday a the funeral home.
