Lakers Sink Wawasee's RallyNAPPANEE – The Wawasee Warriors closed their boys basketball season with a 53-43 loss to the Lakeland Lakers Tuesday in the opening round of Class 3A Sectional 21 at NorthWood High School.

The two teams are familiar foes, having met on Jan. 27 in Syracuse. Lakeland took home the 54-30 victory in that game.

The Warriors (6-17) shot poorly in the first half  and went 3 of 17 from the floor. Lakeland (15-9) couldn’t seem to miss, making 10 of its 15 first shot attempts in the half.

Wawasee trailed 26-9 at the intermission, but came out of the break on fire. The Warriors went on a 25-10 run to close the gap to 36-34.

Aaron Evans started the last stanza with five points for the Warriors, helping the squad come within two. Lakeland went on a short 5-0 run right after and turned the table.

Senior Trevon Coleman ended the night and his career with 11 points and four rebounds. Senior Jairus Boyer tallied six points on two made triples and senior Jacob Hand had five points, five rebounds and four assists to help the cause.

Wawasee will graduate six seniors this year.

Lakeland will play West Noble on Friday in the first game of the semifinal round doubleheader. The game will begin at 6 p.m., with NorthWood and Tippecanoe Valley to follow.
