GAS CITY — Defeating Mississinewa 73-43 in the opening game of Class 3A Sectional 23 at Mississinewa High School Tuesday night, the Whitko girls basketball team has advanced to the semifinals. Whitko will now take on the Bellmont Lady Squaws (4-16) Friday night at 6 p.m., with the winner advancing on to Saturday’s championship game. Against Mississinewa (1-20), the Whitko Lady Wildcats (9-12) received 17 points from senior Karissa Olinske, 13 out of senior Micaela Sylvester and another 11 out of junior Cagney Craig. The Lakeland Christian Academy girls basketball team closed out its season with a 59-38 home win over Mishawaka Christian Monday night. Senior Jo Boren had 28 points and nine rebounds in her final prep game, while Jessica Goss finished with 11 points and nine steals. The game was LCA’s final of the year because the school is in its final probationary season before joining the IHSAA. Because of that, the team can neither play in the IHSAA tournament or Indiana Christian state tournament.
