Lady Vikings Win On Senior Night

AKRON ­­– Class 3A No. 7 Tippecanoe Valley set the tone early Saturday night and cruised to a 62-30 win over Southwood.

In a Three Rivers Conference girls basketball clash, the host Lady Vikings led 28-7 after one quarter of play and 39-17 at halftime, giving their three seniors an emphatic 32-point win on senior night.

Valley improved to 17-3 overall and 6-2 in the TRC. The Lady Vikings have won 34 of their last 36 conference games.

The Lady Knights, who had won two of their last three games following a 14-game losing streak, fell to 4-16 and 1-7.

Junior Sophie Bussard led Valley with 19 points, nine rebounds, eight steals and a pair of assists, but the Lady Vikings’ trio of seniors certainly had a hand in the dominating victory.

Olivia Trippiedi netted 13 points to go along with seven assists and six steals.

Addy Miller tallied 12 points, four rebounds, three steals and an assist.

Asia O’Connor finished the game with four points, five rebounds and an assist.

Junior Emily Peterson tallied five points, three boards and a steal, sophomore Makenzie Woodcox chipped in with five points, two rebounds, a block and a steal, and sophomore Jillian Walls finished with four points, four boards and an assist.

Valley was 24 of 59 from the field overall and 9 of 12 at the free throw line.

The Lady Vikings have two games remaining before state tournament play begins next week.

Valley hosts Kosciusko County foe Wawasee Tuesday, then travels to TRC rival Manchester Thursday.
