Lady Tigers Win 6th Straight Track Regional Title

SOUTH BEND – Warsaw had three champions and qualified all three relay teams for the state meet, helping the Lady Tigers win their sixth consecutive girls track regional title Tuesday night at South Bend St. Joe.

The Lady Tiger 4x100-meter relay team of Shunterra Davis, Maygan Bellamy, Abbi Curtis and Makayla Clampitt won in 49.88 seconds. Alexie Day won the high jump for Warsaw with a leap of 5-6, and Mia Beckham broke the tape first in the 1,600 in 5:01.32.

Warsaw’s 4x400 relay team of Bellamy, Angie Sanchez-Vijil, Kenzie Martz and Beckham finished third, qualifying for the state meet in Bloomington in 4:00.01. The Lady Tiger 4x800 relay team of Emma Bohnenkamper, Sanchez-Vijil, Allison Miller and Dayton Groninger finished third in 9:37.45.

The top three finishers in each event qualify for the state meet, which will be June 3 at Indiana University in Bloomington.

Others placing and scoring points for Warsaw were Charlene Orr and Bellamy, fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 3,200; Curtis, fifth in the 200; Bellamy, sixth in the 200; Groninger, sixth in the 800; Caitlin Kehler, seventh in the pole vault; and Makayla Clampitt, eighth in the 100.

Warsaw won the team title with 68 points, followed in the top five by Penn (61), Concord (53), Culver Academies (47) and Plymouth (39.

Manchester tied for 10th with 22 points, while Wawasee was 14th (20) and Whitko 21st (9) among the 26 teams that scored at least four points.

Manchester senior Rae Bedke punched her ticket to Bloomington, winning the 3,200 and finishing second to Warsaw’s  Beckham in the 1,600. Bailey Sewell was fifth in the discus. The Lady Squires finished in a three-way tie for 10th place in the team standings with Elkhart’s two schools, Central and Memorial.

Wawasee’s Alexis Manges will go to the state meet after finishing third in the discus. Jada Parzygnot was fourth in the pole vault with a school-record jump of 10-4. Hannah-Marie Lamle was fourth in the long jump and eighth in the 100 hurdles, and Elizabeth Zorn was sixth in the 1,600.

Whitko’s Suzanne Sickafoose was fourth in the 400, missing a third-place finish by .43 seconds. She also finished eighth in the 200. Lyndsey Sapp was sixth in the discus for the Lady Wildcats.
