Lady Tigers Take 2-0 NLC Soccer Win At NorthWood
NAPPANEE – Warsaw’s Brenna Buhrt scored a goal and assisted on Audrey Grimm’s score, leading the Lady Tigers to a 2-0 Northern Lakes Conference win at NorthWood Thursday evening.
The Lady Panthers had a “bend but don’t break” defensive mentality, according to Warsaw coach Jon Hoover. Buhrt scored from about 25 yards out just before halftime, off an assist by Abby Steffensmeier, to give the Lady Tigers a 1-0 advantage.
Buhrt found Grimm for a late insurance goal to seal the win.
“Our girls did a great job grinding out a win tonight. NorthWood is a well-coached squad, and they are going to win a lot of games this year.,” Hoover said. “Our back line did an excellent job of taking Northwood’s attack and playing it into possession.
“Brenna Buhrt was a special player tonight. She worked tirelessly off the ball and made everyone around her better.”
The junior varsity match ended in a 1-1 draw. Tobi Avey scored for Warsaw.
The Lady Tigers improved to 3-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Warsaw plays an NLC match at Goshen Tuesday.
Lady Tiger Golf Downs Plymouth In NLC Match
Warsaw’s Madelyn Ray was the medalist, shooting a 44 at Stonehenge Golf Club Thursday and leading the Lady Tigers to a 189-220 win over visiting Plymouth in Northern Lakes Conference play.
Grayson Kilburn and Izzy Ray each shot 48 for Warsaw, with Delaney Wihebrink a shot back at 49. Miriam Hagg checked in at 52.
Brittany Klotz led Plymouth with a 48.
In junior varsity play, Valerie Messmore shot a 54, Julia Hildebrand had a 55 and Anna Morgan and Cassidy Good each shot 57. Sydney Lancaster and Kennedy Patton each had a 58 and Lindsey Bradley a 63.
Warsaw improved to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the NLC. The Lady Tigers play a conference match against NorthWood and host Goshen on Tuesday.
